Claude to Meta and Google Ads: MCP Setup Guide

Follow these step-by-step instructions to connect Claude Code to Meta Ads and Google Ads via MCP so you can query campaigns directly.

Free guide · copy-paste ready · built by the BrainVaultAI team

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets Claude Code connect to external APIs as native tools. When you wire Claude Code to your ad accounts, you can describe what you want in plain English and Claude executes against the live account. This guide covers: which MCP servers to use, how to authenticate, and the prompt patterns that actually move metrics. Prerequisite: Claude Code installed and running. No coding experience needed for the setup, it's config files and API keys.

MCP Setup Instructions
Step 1, Install the MCP servers
For Meta Ads: use the official Claude.ai Facebook Ads MCP (available in Claude's MCP directory).
For Google Ads: use the Google Ads MCP or connect via a Zapier/Make webhook MCP if you need a simpler path. Step 2, Add to your Claude Code config
Open ~/.claude/settings.json and add the MCP server block for each ad platform. Each entry needs your API credentials and account ID. Step 3, Authenticate
Meta: generate a System User token in Meta Business Manager with ads_management and ads_read permissions.
Google: use OAuth2 with your Google Ads developer token and customer ID. Step 4, Test the connection
In Claude Code, type: "List my active Meta ad campaigns with spend and ROAS for the last 7 days."
If the MCP is connected, Claude will query the API and return live data. Step 5, Run your first optimization
"Find any ad sets with CPM above $40 and CTR below 0.8% in the last 14 days. Pause them and tell me which audiences they were targeting."
Ads Optimization Prompt Templates
Campaign audit:
"Audit all active campaigns in [ACCOUNT]. Show me: spend last 30 days, ROAS, CPA, and trend direction (improving or declining). Flag anything with declining ROAS two weeks in a row." Creative analysis:
"Compare the top 3 and bottom 3 performing ad creatives by ROAS in the last 30 days. What patterns do you see in the top performers vs. bottom performers?" Budget reallocation:
"Based on last 14-day ROAS by campaign, recommend a budget reallocation that keeps total spend the same but maximizes expected return. Show your math." Audience expansion:
"My best performing audience in [CAMPAIGN] is [AUDIENCE]. What lookalike or interest-based audiences should I test next? Create three new ad sets with the same creative but different audiences."
