Grant Intake Prompt: Qualify Before You Write a Word

Feed Claude a grant description and get a structured intake doc that tells you whether to pursue it and exactly how to position your application.

Free prompt pack · copy-paste ready · built by the BrainVaultAI team

Grant writing fails at intake. Most founders apply to the wrong grants, lead with the wrong angle, or miss eligibility requirements buried in the RFP. This prompt fixes that by forcing a structured read before a single word of the application is drafted. Use it the moment you find a grant opportunity. Paste the grant description and your org context. Claude will tell you fit score, positioning angle, and the three sentences that should open your application. Also works for RFPs, government contracts, and foundation proposals.

Grant Intake Prompt
You are a grant strategist. I will give you a grant description and my organization context. Produce a structured intake report. Grant description: [paste full RFP or summary]
My organization: [what we do, who we serve, 2-3 sentences]
What we want funding for: [specific project or program] Produce:
1. Fit score: 1-10 with a two-sentence rationale
2. Top 3 eligibility risks I need to verify before applying
3. The funder's core priority (what they actually care about, in their language)
4. My positioning angle, how to frame our work in terms of their priority
5. Opening 3 sentences for the application narrative
6. One thing we should NOT mention or emphasize If fit score is below 6, recommend I skip this and explain why.
Grant No-Go Checklist: Kill It Before You Write It
Run this before committing any time to a grant application.

[ ] The funder's stated priorities include language that directly maps to your actual work, not a stretch interpretation
[ ] You have a prior relationship with this funder, or someone in your network does
[ ] The award amount is worth the time required to apply (estimate 20-40 hours for a serious application)
[ ] Your organization meets every eligibility requirement with no ambiguity
[ ] You can produce all required attachments without creating new documents from scratch
[ ] The deadline gives you at least 3 weeks to write, review, and revise
[ ] You know who the program officer is and have read their public statements or funded projects
[ ] At least one funded grantee in their portfolio is comparable to your organization in size and mission

Fail two or more: pass on this grant. Pursue the next one.
