Claude is confident by default. Confidence and accuracy are not the same thing. Claude will state wrong facts in the same tone it states right ones. If you don't have a systematic way to catch this, you will act on bad information. These four prompts are your verification layer. Each targets a different failure mode: factual errors, false assumptions, overconfident recommendations, and gaps in reasoning. Run them after any output you're about to act on. Takes 60 seconds. Catches the failures that cost hours.

Verify Prompt 1: Factual Audit
Audit the output you just gave me. For every factual claim:
- Mark it CONFIRMED if you know it's true from reliable training data
- Mark it INFERRED if it's a reasonable assumption but not certain
- Mark it UNCERTAIN if you don't actually know List the claims and their status. Do not skip this. Do not mark something CONFIRMED because it sounds right, only if you actually know.
Verify Prompt 2: Assumption Expose
List every assumption you made to produce that output. For each assumption:
1. State the assumption explicitly
2. Rate how confident you are it's correct (high / medium / low)
3. Say what changes in your output if the assumption is wrong Don't include assumptions that are obviously true. Focus on the ones that could realistically be wrong.
Verify Prompt 3: Steel Man the Opposite
Make the strongest possible case against the recommendation you just gave me. - What evidence or logic would support the opposite conclusion?
- Under what conditions would your recommendation be wrong?
- What am I not accounting for that would change the answer? Don't be weak about this. The goal is to find the real flaw if there is one.
Verify Prompt 4: Confidence Calibration
Rate your confidence in the output you just gave me on a scale of 1-10. Break it down:
- Confidence in the facts: [1-10]
- Confidence in the logic: [1-10]
- Confidence in the recommendation: [1-10] For any rating below 8, explain what you'd need to know to get it higher. If I should verify anything externally before acting, tell me what and where.
